Rainin Game is my favorite Mac Dre song. What's yours?

I was just listening to Back N Da Hood, the 1992 album that Andre recorded from jail. The fact that he recorded it over the phone makes the album all the better. It really doesn't hurt the sound quality, and gives the album a "real" feel to it. In a day and age now when the studios are shooting out many overly polished albums, a Mac Dre album like this is all the more timeless. RIP Andre Hicks.

My reactions:

"Get This Together" was clearly the best song on the album, and releasing it as a single probably was a good idea. Still there were some other very good songs on there.
"Crack Baby Anthem" is a good song. The beat sounds good and fits the subject matter. Messy Marv (free him) also contributed a good verse. I think in terms of "anthems," "Get This Together" is clearly more of an appealing anthem overall. "Crack Baby Anthem" is somewhat more deep and thoughtful though.
The beat to "Dem Cars" is hella tight.
The features on the album were kind of whack. I would have preferred to hear Keak on one of the deeper songs, rather than on "Race 4 ya pink slips." Too $hort was alright on those two songs. The D4L features did not add much to "Goin Crazy." Fabo and Mistah F.A.B. sounded a lot better on that song "Lasso" with Chingo Bling.
Baydestrian really is the prequel to Yellow Bus Rydah. While it is not too adventurous to pick up too many national fans, it is good enough to preserve Fabby's bay area and die hard fan base. Its enough to satisfy those anticipating YBR, but not enough to really revolutionize the rap game or anything, though the mixture between hyphy and deep songs holds a lot of potential.

Haji Springer's album Hello Buddy is out. Its entertaining comedic hyphy Indian stuff. What you would expect from Haji.

You may remember the Dem Hoodstarz ad for King Of Queens.
Well, here NUMP brings a slap to the table for High School Sports Focus, a Bay Area high school sports TV show. The song featuring Ray Rydah is a little generic hyphy, but NUMP does drop some rhymes about specific high schools and what not, so props to NUMP on that. The video, below, interpolates images of NUMP rapping with sports highlights.

Move over Linkin Park, Hardnox is the best rap-rock band out there. These dudes make hilarious music. Its a cross between hyphy rap and rock. Their album title Go Dumb Off This Heavy Metal pretty much sums up their music style, a cross between go dumb hyphy and heavy metal. I just got the Go Dumb album. Its great. Even if you aren't interested in music made by some skaters from Concord, check out their album. It has enough features of established bay area rappers (Nump, Dem Hoodstarz, Balance, Keak da Sneak) make up for this.

Albums we are waiting for:

"The Baydestrian"--Fabby Davis' last release on an independent, before the ground breaking "Yellow Bus Rydah" drops. "Baydestrian" should hella go. Should be out May of '07. Featuring the hit single "Get This Shit Together." Of course, you can get the single and more information at Bay On Top

"Yellow Bus Rydah" Mistah F.A.B.'s debut on a major, Atlantic Records. It was originally due out a while ago, but was pushed back by label politics. Even with the wait, the album should be fire. It features the smash single "Ghostride It," whose video slapped so much, it got banned. Hit up Bay On Top for more info on the banning and the album. Expect it at the end of '07.

"Ball Street Journal" E-40 is coming with another one. This will be the follow up to the album that, arguably, revealed the hyphy movement to the nation. Not much information as of yet, but check Bay On Top and we will have the latest for you. Could be out as early as the end of this year.

"Million Dollar Mouthpiece" Bay Area veteran Yukmouth should be releasing this much anticipated album, also pushed back by label politics and such, this year ('07) as well.
